God has a funny sense of humor.
For real.
We planted a random packet of wildflower seeds last year in two pots on the front porch. The kids watered them and watched for signs of growth. We moved them to get more sun and then back to more shade. We re-read the packet to ensure we were doing everything according to the instructions.
Nothing happened.
No flowers, no stems. Just soil.
Over time, we forgot about them. We didn’t dump the pots or replant; just left them to get back to eventually.
Now that the sun has been out and the temperature has warmed up, planting and new life has been all around us. Spring has sprung!
And here we are, Easter weekend 2025, and the plants we thought were duds have bloomed into beautiful, towering flowers!

What a beautiful picture of God’s story. Ben and I have been walking the kids through Holy Week, focusing each day on Jesus’ journey and ultimate sacrifice on the cross.
Last night, we celebrated Good Friday sharing a special meal around the table. We discussed what Jesus’ friends would have felt like during the meal, while the prayed in the garden afterward, and then when Jesus was taken away.
Today, we talked about the heaviness of Jesus’ dead body being locked away in a tomb. How all of the people who loved him and believed in him must have been sad, but also disappointed and confused.
It looked like this whole thing turned out to be a dud. Nothing was happening – that they could see.
But Sunday was coming.
Since the beginning of the world, Sunday was coming. The Son was coming.
And just like our flowers burst forth at just the right time, our Savior rose from the dead, defeating sin and death forever. He created a way for me (and you!) to leave all of the things that separate us from our good God and to live a life full of love and joy with Him.
That’s what Sunday is about. That’s what every day is about. Trading in the stuff and the desire to do it our way and instead, living a life poured out for others.
Today is a good day. Tomorrow will be even better. And every day we have breath in our lungs has the opportunity to be better if we fix our eyes on Jesus.
If your life looks like nothing is happening or that you must be forgotten, hope for one more day.
Sunday is coming.
See y’all around the farm,
